Frequently Asked Questions

How should a hat be worn?

Wearing a hat, as with many things in life, can be done in a right or wrong way. Although there are no hard and fast rules you should be aware of the best way for you to wear your hat.

You should really have a good look in the mirror from all angles, what may look great from the front may look dreadful from the side. You need to check! So if you have a wonderful hat that is just not looking right, come in and see us... your hat may just need a little adjustment.

What hat suits me?

When choosing your hat/fascinator there are some things to consider:

  • your face shape
  • your height
  • your hair style.

A few tips:

The brim of a hat should never be broader than your shoulders.

Bigger hats suit tall ladies. Always try pulling your hair back when trying on a hat or tucking behind your ears.

Try different angles, normally it should be tilted forward over the brow - creating a more flattering look.

Tilt your hat/fascinator from side to side... one side may be more flattering.

Sometimes upturned brims are more sppealing than down turned ones.

How should I look after my hat?

To make the most of your hat here are a few tips on how to look after it:

  • Never wear your hat in the rain. Dyes can run, sinamay can lose its shape and silk will get water marks. If the weather looks uncertain then take an umbrella and if you get caught in a shower, dive for cover!
  • When trying on your hat make sure your hands are clean, an expensive hat can become grubby very quickly.
  • Your hat will need adjusting on your head to make it look absolutely fabulous but try to adjust it by the crown rather than the brim. It is easy to pull the brim out of shape.
  • Always store and pack the hat carefully in tissue paper.
